Typography Survey - Number 11

Adios Script is one of Alejandro Paul’s most elaborate and technically refined typefaces to date. It was invented on 2009 and ever since than it has been very popular on wedding invitations, letters and presentations. The great choice of using Adios Script on this wedding invitation card is that it adds warmth and a personal touch to the message and design. Adios Script looks beautiful specially on wedding cards because it has hundreds of ornamental ascenders and descenders allowing a beautiful interplay of strokes and combinations, while avoiding overlaps or conflicts. I found this typeface very artistic and it proves to stand out and give warmth to an invitation.

Frederick M.Lawrence is a law professor who teaches at Boston University. In 1999 he wrote a book describing how much he was disturbed by racial violence in the United States. His book was titled "Punishing Hate: Bias Crimes under American Law". On his book he not only wanted to express how much he disagree with racial violence but he wanted express how he wants this violence to be appropriately punished. The typeface used on this book cover was Carnival, which was designed by Andrew Newman. The Carnival typeface made the book cover very successful and really made it stand out. The type face not only described what the author felt about "hate crimes" but it also gave the reader a good summary of what the book was going to be about. By looking at the book cover of this book I can say that good typography doesn't have to be beautiful all the time. Picking the right typography that describes feelings for a particular topic tends to result in successful designs. Every typeface should be used according to the message that you would like to give to your reader and audience. The design of this book was perfectly executed with good usage of typography which makes the book cover successful.

Typography Survey - Number 9

Its interesting to know that American Airlines a major U.S. airline has a unique word-mark that uses the Helvetica typeface. Helvetica is a sans-serif typeface developed in 1957 by Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann. Helvetica has that classic and modern look which tends to look elegant and relaxed at the same time. Other than looking elegant, Helvetica also remains legible when in motion which is of one of the reasons why American Airlines used the typeface on their word-mark logo. I find this logo very successful because it is simple, easy to read, and it remains readable during motion. The red color tends to pull the logo forward to make it stand out. I like the eagle symbol between the two letter A's it makes the logo more attractive by giving it more meaning to message. The Symmetrical Balance in the logo makes it look neat and organized which is another reason why the word-mark is very successful as well.
